Why Are You Still Waiting On God?
Some of the most powerful moments in life come when we face what seems impossible—and then God intervenes. These are the crisis points that test what we really believe about Him. Do we trust Him when there’s no plan B? Will we step into what looks like failure or danger, simply because He said so?
We see these moments all throughout Scripture. Abraham, a man well into his senior years, is told he’ll become a father. Gideon faces a massive army with only 300 men. Mary is told she’ll give birth without ever being with a man. Jesus commands His disciples to feed thousands with a child’s lunch. Each story carries the same message: faithfulness matters more than outcomes. The miracle only comes after the act of obedience.
And that brings us to you and me.
Faithfulness Isn’t About Appearances
In our walk with God, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that external success equals faithfulness. But as Blackaby once said, “The outward appearance of success does not always represent faith. And the outward appearance of failure does not always indicate that faith is lacking.”
Faithfulness is about consistency. It’s measured not in how often we show up at church, or how much we give, but in how quickly we respond when God prompts us to act.
Does God ask you to serve? To pray for someone you’d rather avoid? To lay something down that’s taken root in your heart? Then faithfulness means saying yes, not when it’s convenient, but when He speaks.
We all want God to show up in powerful ways. But too often we wait for Him to move first, forgetting that He’s already spoken. That’s what happened in Exodus 14.
Stop Crying. Start Moving.
When the Israelites stood at the edge of the Red Sea, pursued by Pharaoh’s army, they did what most of us would do: they panicked and started praying. And God responded with a shocking question: “Why are you crying out to me?”(Exodus 14:15)
He wasn’t ignoring their need. He had already given Moses instructions. The time for praying had passed. It was time to act.
There’s a powerful truth here for anyone facing a decision or obstacle: faithfulness must be paired with forward motion. Praying is crucial. But there comes a moment when God says, “Go,” and we need to stop talking and start walking.
Your Uncertainty Is Not Unfaithfulness
Let’s be honest. Stepping forward can feel like stepping off a cliff. You may hear God calling, but everything in you wants to pause and double-check.
Here’s the good news: uncertainty isn’t the opposite of faith. In fact, uncertainty creates the very space where faith grows. What you do next—that’s where faith shows up.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to move in the direction God has already made clear.
Move Toward the Water
Picture Moses at the edge of the sea. Behind him, a massive army. In front of him, an impassable body of water. From a human perspective, it was a trap.
But God had already spoken: Raise your staff. Step forward. I’ll take care of the rest.
Maybe that’s you right now. You’re stuck between pressure and a promise. The deadline is looming. The relationship feels too broken. The job situation is unstable. And you’re still waiting for a sign or a guarantee.
Here’s your sign: If God has already told you what to do, it’s time to get moving.
What Might That Look Like?
1. Start the conversation you’ve been avoiding.
2. Apply for the job even though you’re underqualified.
3. Serve in the ministry even if you feel unworthy.
4. Give generously even if you’re unsure about your finances.
5. Lay down the addiction, the fear, or the grudge—because He already asked you to.
None of these steps guarantee a smooth road. But God never promised smooth. He promised presence. And that’s more than enough.
Faithfulness Is a Daily Choice
We all have a step to take. A direction God has already made clear. A moment where faithfulness meets action. The question is: Do we believe He’ll meet us there?
Will you stop crying out and start moving? Will you step forward not because the way is clear, but because you trust the One who called you?
That’s the invitation today. Faithfulness, followed by obedience. And then, trust God for the rest.
